Wainwrights worked with global healthcare waste specialists to open Europes’ largest alternative treatment plant in Telford, Shropshire.
The plant processes clinical waste; including testing materials, sharps, hospital waste, and personal protective equipment (PPE) created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new Telford plant, will increase the speed, efficiency and sustainability of this processing by using the latest technologies to steam-treat clinical waste, which is then used as a fuel for power generation and other industrial processes.
The plant is expected to reduce the amount of treated clinical waste sent to landfill for disposal by up to an estimated 48 tonnes per day.

Wainwrights developed a design brief starting with the initial acquisition building condition assessment, followed by developing a brief to tender the works.
We also project managed the scheme through to completion, delivered on time and within budget.
Following the success achieved at Telford, the client have since commissioned Wainwrights to undertake the same process at similar schemes nationwide.
